Earlier today, the Guilderland/Mohonasen/Scotia-Glenville/Voorheesville/Schalmont Storm advanced to the quarterfinals of the CDHSHL playoffs with a 6-2 win over Niskayuna-Schenectady-Albany. Depleted by a case of the flu ravaging their locker room, the Storm got 33 saves from back-up goaltender Allie Kelley, whose brother, Jayden, scored a key goal in the third period to give the Storm a two goal lead.
The Storm are one of a handful of teams in the league using female players, a popular trend in the league the last couple of seasons. Allie Kelley might be starting in goal again Wednesday night, when the Storm travel to top-seeded Bethlehem.
The quarter-finals are now set:
Tuesday:
#5 Albany Academy @ #4 CBA.
Wednesday:
#8 "Guilderville" @ #1 Bethlehem.
#7 LaSalle @ #2 Shenendehowa.
#6 Burnt Hills-Ballston Spa @ #3 Saratoga.
The winners over the next two nights will advance to the semi-finals at Union College on Saturday, with the championship game on Sunday.
