Sectional roundup, 2/21

Playing in the Class A sectionals for the first time in three years, Troy High was hoping to at least make a Cinderella run to the finals, where they'd likely play arch-nemesis Averill Park.

Uh-uh. Not happening.

Troy, for the second straight year, is one-&-done in tournament play, as they took Amsterdam to double overtime before losing 70-64, at Queensbury High. Alaina Holmes led Troy with 22 points in a losing effort, and, with no box score available as of press time, it appears Troy finished the season without sophomore star Jenalyse Alarcon, whose season ended due to injury a couple of weeks back. Jackie Stanovich led Amsterdam with a career high 32 points, and if that last name sounds familiar, it should. Jackie's brothers, Dale & Bryan, were multi-sport stars for Amsterdam, and largely responsible for Amsterdam beating Troy in the Class A Super Bowl in 2015.

The Lady Rams will play Queensbury next, as the Lady Spartans dispatched Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, 75-33.

Over in Averill Park, the top-seeded Lady Warriors routed league rival Ballston Spa, 67-36. Next for Sean Organ's club will be the Academy of Holy Names, which beat Gloversville, 55-44.

Troy finishes its season 10-12 overall.

Over in Class AA:

#1 Shenendehowa 59, Niskayuna 42.
#2 Albany 56, Bethlehem 47.
#3 Saratoga 59, Shaker 50.
#4 Colonie 59, Guilderland 54.

Semi-final pairings:

Colonie vs. Shen.
Saratoga vs. Albany.

The finals will be next weekend at Hudson Valley Community College, which will begin hosting men's action tonight.
