The weekend heat wave may have closed Saratoga Race Course for a day, but their neighbors at the Saratoga Casino Hotel, where the harness track is stationed, had no such issues.
Instead, they simply delayed the start of the evening card by an hour to 8 pm, according to track announcer Mike Sardella, who revealed the change in his Tuesday column for The Saratogian & The Record. The harness track has the advantage of having lights for evening racing, something NYRA will never approve for the Saratoga flat track, but I'd not be too surprised if down the road NYRA does add lights at Aqueduct and/or Belmont downstate.
Saratoga Raceway, as it was once known, was not alone with delays. A national television audience had to wait an extra ninety minutes before the Haskell Invitational, won by Maximum Security, could be run at Monmouth Park in New Jersey.

The Albany Dutchmen swept a doubleheader from Amsterdam on Tuesday night, including the completion of a suspended game, to pull within a game of qualifying for the Perfect Game Collegiate League playoffs, which begin next week.
A youth camp operated by the Dutchmen was to start on Monday, but the opening of the camp was rained out, so they'll start the camp today.

The Troy Fighting Irish took down another opponent on Saturday, beating Broome County, 12-6, at Lansingburgh High. The team simply doesn't have the resources (i.e. volunteers) to submit game results to the local papers, and the press just ignores them otherwise. That's the world we live in now, folks.

After taking two of three from Vermont, the Tri-City Valleycats stepped outside the Stedler Division Tuesday, and won a rain shortened game from Brooklyn, 4-1. The game was called after 5 innings due to weather after an hour-plus delay. The 'Cats have won 3 of 4 from the Mets' farm club so far this season. Tri-City comes home Friday to host Connecticut.
