The horses will soon be on the track, and so will the drama

Saratoga begins its thoroughbred season on Thursday, the earliest it's been since they went to a 40-day schedule. However, they'll race five days a week (Wednesday-Sunday), save for the first week, and make it up with the traditional closing on Labor Day, September 2.

However, there figures to be some drama away from the track this year.

One of the sport's leading trainers, Mechanicville product Chad Brown, came under scrutiny a couple of weeks back when he was scheduled to be a guest speaker at Mechanicville High's commencement exercises. Seems there's some issues regarding back wages not being paid to workers the last few years, and some Mechanicville students weren't happy with Brown, a MHS alumnus himself, being chosen as a speaker this year. I daresay it'd have been the same thing had he been invited to speak anywhere else in the 518, like Shen or Saratoga Springs High.

What they're looking for is for Brown to do the right thing, and get his house in order financially with the backstretch workers he's employed at Saratoga before the meet begins. It'd be in his best interest if he did.
