News & notes

Troy High will limp into the postseason on a two game losing streak. Greg Davis' club fell to Averill Park, 58-51, spoiling Senior Night on Tuesday. We obtained the information from Averill Park's Twitter feed, as the game wasn't reported to media outlets otherwise.

Troy finishes the regular season 9-11 overall (7-7 Suburban Council), and will learn the sectional opponent later today, with the possibility that they could play the Warriors again. Averill Park coach Dave Pugilese, just like Columbia's Curt Sankey a couple of weeks ago, finally broke the drought vs. Troy, after going 0-4 in previous meetings since Troy entered the Suburban Council.

On the women's side, Saratoga completed a perfect regular season in the Suburban Council with a 45-42 win over Colonie. Senior star Catherine "Dolly" Cairns was held out for a second straight game, and Lauren Patnode led the way with 13 points. Since it's likely the Lady Streaks will get a first round bye in Class AA, coach Robin Chudy can give Cairns as much time to rest as possible.

Moving to the ice, CBA moved into second place in the CDHSHL by beating Queensbury, 2-1, on Tuesday night. The win leaves the Brothers a half-point behind first place Bethlehem. However, CBA's regular season is over, while Bethlehem will close and potentially could clinch its 3rd straight Delvecchio Cup with a win over Albany Academy tonight. Saratoga, now in third, could muddy the waters a bit if they can beat Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake-Ballston Spa AND Academy upsets Bethlehem. If two points are on the line, a Saratoga win, coupled with a Bethlehem loss, would leave the Eagles & Spartan Scotties in a dead heat for first, with CBA falling to third.
