News & notes

Updating a recent story, Amsterdam Mohawks manager Keith Griffin is officially out for the 2020 season due to coronavirus-related travel restrictions implemented by Governor Andrew Cuomo. Shenendehowa baseball coach Greg Christodulu will be the interim manager when play begins in the Independent Collegiate League later this month.

With Major League Baseball set to start play in three weeks, local fans will only have two options for radio broadcasts as of right now.

As of press time, the Mets don't have a local outlet, as they ended their contract with Pamal/Albany Broadcasting after the 2018 season. The Boston Red Sox can be found, in all probability, on WOFX (980 AM), and the Yankees, with ageless John Sterling at the mic hamming it up, remain on WTMM (104.5 FM). Hard to believe Sterling is over 80. Yow!
===================================
Local product Gary Apple, long time host of the Mets' pre-game & post-game shows on SNY, reported that he & his family have recovered from COVID-19. A Troy native, Gary started his TV career at WRGB many, many moons ago, before moving to NYC. Prayers going out to the Apple family to avoid a relapse.
