High School Fridays: Hoops 'n' hockey, 3/5/21

Playoff positioning is on the line today & tomorrow for CBA & LaSalle in the final regular season series for both teams.

Coming off an overtime loss to the Mohawks on Wednesday, the Cadets could not afford another letdown.

About five minutes into the 1st period, LaSalle tuned in to the Fuda Network. Angelo Fuda, that is, as he put the hosts up, 1-0. It stayed that way until the 2nd period, as CBA put a couple of fish sticks past Leo Paul to take a 2-1 lead into the intermission.

After the break, LaSalle took the lead back, including a power play goal, and it was 3-2 Cadets headed into the final period.

It then became a case of who wanted it more. The two teams traded the lead back & forth until CBA scored three times in about five minutes to put the game away, picking up a 6-5 win. LaSalle drops to 4-5 overall (4-3 in the CDHSHL South division), and has 18 hours to try to figure things out.

CBA has played fewer games, and moves into 2nd place in the South division with the win today. Puck drop for their home finale is 11:40 am tomorrow.

Just a few clicks down the road at Troy High, the Flying Horses put on a defensive clinic in demolishing Shaker, 68-30. The Blue Bison could not break double figures in any quarter, and, unlike on Wednesday, when he pulled his starters too soon, only to bring them back to save the game, coach Rich Hurley began pulling the starters during the 4th quarter, giving some little used reserves not only some much needed minutes, but also an opportunity to fill the scoresheet.

Enjoy:

Troy closes at Bethlehem tomorrow. Game time has been changed to 3 pm, so there might've been some staffing issues at either school that prompted the women's game to be moved to Sunday at 12:45.

Speaking of the women, they could not build off the momentum generated from Wednesday's rout of Ballston Spa. Instead, Shaker High remains a house of horrors for the Lady Horses, as they drop a 53-42 decision.

Stats coming in 24 hours. Here's the video:

Official pairings for the Suburban Council tournament will be announced either Sunday night or Monday morning.
