It was Senior Night at LaSalle on Tuesday for the basketball team, which closed its home schedule by thrashing Watervliet, 78-45. Sophomore Shamiere Green led the Cadets with 17 points. Seniors Gabe Lucarelli & Jimyh Evans added 16 & 14, respectively.

According to a game report in the Albany Times-Union, the Cadets will close with a 2 game road trip, starting with a non-league game at Colonie on Thursday, before closing vs. Albany Academy, which is playing as an independent, on Saturday.

The Cadets are now 9-1 (9-0 Colonial Council).

Following up on some news from yesterday:

According to LaSalle hockey coach Tim Flanigan, the skating Cadets were put into quarantine on Monday, forcing their withdraw from the CDHSHL tournament. LaSalle finishes at 4-6 on the season

Curiously, as of press time, there was no mention of this in the Times-Union, though there is an article on the Daily Gazette's webpage. El Cheapo Media? There's likely something in today's editions.

Let's clear up the mystery surrounding the Suburban Council basketball tournaments.

According to James Allen of the Times-Union and Spectrum Sports, the league's athletic directors, including Chris Culnan of Shenendehowa and Paul Reinisch of Troy High, met to determine the rankings for the tournaments. It is the women's tournament, as noted yesterday, where it gets problematic. According to Allen, though, Reinisch opted to have Troy compete in the consolation tournament, thinking perhaps that lightning would strike twice for the school, after their women's soccer team won a consolation tournament back in the fall.

The 8 teams in the women's tournament were the only ones actually interested in it, which explains why sub-.500 teams like Guilderland & Bethlehem, because of tradition and school pride, were entered, and promptly eliminated in the first round.

The Times-Union does not have an opponent listed for the Troy women for today. Stay tuned.

After being eliminated from the women's tournament Monday, Niskayuna suffered its 2nd straight loss, falling to Colonie, 42-39. Olivia Olson led all scorers with 18 points for the Silver Warriors, while Isabella Franchi led Colonie with 16.

Siena took its first step toward a NCAA women's tournament berth Tuesday, as the Lady Saints downed Niagara 74-65. Isis Young led Siena with 21 points.

Meanwhile, in addition to being named to the MAAC first team, Manny Camper was named MAAC Men's Player of The Year on Monday.
