News & notes

Chalk up another win for Shenendehowa grad Ian Anderson.

Anderson checked the Arizona Diamondbacks on one run and one hit, with eight strikeouts, over seven innings Wednesday, as the Atlanta Braves inched a step closer to their fourth straight NL East title with a 9-2 verdict. The way the schedule is set, it looks like Anderson will get one more start vs. the Mets in the final series of the season next weekend.

Meanwhile, Shen has to deal with the reality of their boosters, and the school itself, being the victims of a long-distance scam.

According to the Albany Times-Union this morning, Shen AD Chris Culnan received a surprise delivery right at the start of the season in the form of two boxes of t-shirts that were not ordered by Culnan or any other Shen staffer.

A Texas man solicited a number of local businesses, according to the article, and some of these unsuspecting marks paid more than $1,000 each for what they thought was sponsorship of the Plainsmen's football team. Elite Sports Promos collected as much as $7,000 until, according to Elite's James Stevens, Culnan cancelled the contract, which Stevens claims was initiated by varsity cheerleading coach Amy Price, who denies any involvement at all.

Price, Culnan, and Shen Nation as a whole, were duped, and plan to spread the word to other schools in the area.

Lest we forget, Shen will be featured on Spectrum News 1's Friday Night Matchup tomorrow night vs. Shaker. The Blue Bison will be appearing on TV for the 2nd time in 3 weeks. Spectrum evening anchor Marisa Jacques is back roaming the sidelines on Fridays.
