News & notes

LaSalle track star Getachew "Gitch" Hayes, after winning the Grout Run at Central Park in Schenectady on October 2, has been named Male Athlete of The Week by the Albany Times-Union for the 2nd straight week.

The Grout Run was not contested in 2020 due to COVID, of course, but Hayes has actually won the event twice in a row, as he also won in 2019.

Troy High's women's swimming & diving team, combined with Tamarac & Averill Park, got back to .500 Wednesday in defeating Albany, 55-36. Troy/Tamarac/Averill Park (3-3) has two meets left.

Meanwhile, Troy's women's tennis team will close another winless campaign today at Shenendehowa, after dropping an 8-1 decision to Columbia on Wednesday in their home finale.

While Saratoga's Bobby Fish will be appearing on Major League Wrestling's Fusion Alpha, competing in the Opera Cup tournament, he has made a commitment to All Elite Wrestling.

Fish, who has held numerous tag titles across the country, including with Ring of Honor & NXT, joins former Undisputed Era teammate Adam Cole with AEW. Whether or not their paths will cross is another story altogether.

Other LaSalle news: Andrew Lee needed only 2 saves as the Cadets defeated Schalmont, 5-1, on Wednesday.
