News & notes

Siena College's men's basketball team is peaking at the right time, and that's bad news for the rest of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).

Javion McCollum & Anthony Gaines had 15 points each for the Saints, and Jackson Stormo added 15, as Siena downed St. Peter's, 84-70, at MVP Arena on Sunday afternoon. Siena heads out to New Jersey for a rematch with MAAC lame duck Monmouth Tuesday night.

The Capital District High School Hockey League opened its playoffs on Sunday night with the first of their play-in games at Weibel Avenue Rink in Saratoga.

For LaSalle, what has to be the worst season in school history has mercifully come to an end, as the Cadets dropped a heartbreaker, 3-2, in double overtime, to the homestanding Blue Streaks. Unfortunately, no stats are available as of press time because the score was submitted so late. LaSalle finishes 1-20 overall for the season, and you might have to dig into the archives to find a worst season than this one.

Saratoga will face defending champion Adirondack on Wednesday night. Today, there are two games scheduled. CBA will seek revenge on the Capital District Jets, six days after the Jets blew out the Brothers, 7-2. Also, the Mohawks will visit Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake-Ballston Spa. The Spartan Scotties fell out of contention late in the regular season, and will look to try to get back in the hunt. The CBA-Jets winner, by the way, will face 2nd seeded Guilderville, while Shenendehowa awaits the Mohawks-Burnt Hills winner. Bethlehem & Albany Academy will meet on Wednesday.
