Wednesday's sectional scoreboard, 2/23

Given all the press surrounding her during the season, you'd think that Catskill's Janay Brantley would carry the Lady Cats to the Class B finals.

Fonda-Fultonville had other ideas.

Brantley led all scorers with 23 points. However, Fonda-Fultonville used a more balanced offensive attack, with four players in double figures, to upset Catskill, 68-47.

The Section II hockey tournament began quarter-final play on Wednesday, and, for now, form is holding.

Defending champion Adirondack, the #3 seed, defeated Saratoga, 6-2. The Rivermen await the winner of today's game between the Capital District Jets and the Guilderville Storm. Meanwhile, top-seeded Shenendehowa downed the Niskayna-Schenectady-Amsterdam Mohawks, 5-1. Up next for the Plainsmen will be either Bethlehem or Albany Academy. The semi-finals are Sunday at Union College.
