Troy High sports update, 9/30

We've often noted in this space how Troy High's volleyball team was among the elite in the Big 10 back in the day, and they're often contenders in the Suburban Council.

This morning, Talia Valenti's squad is at .500 overall with a 4-4 ledger after beating Schenectady, 3 sets to 1, extending their current winning streak to 3 matches in a row. Next up is a non-league match with Tamarac, right back at Zotto Gym, on Monday. this was postponed from last week for unknown reasons. The Lady Horses have yet to reschedule against Catholic Central, which was also postponed last Friday.

The remaining schedule, as it stands now. Keep in mind that Suburban powers Burnt Hills & Shenendehowa are not on the calendar for some strange reason. Seems Troy also asked to be released from a full league schedule in volleyball, too, but that hasn't been confirmed.

Monday: Tamarac.
Tuesday: Shaker.
October 7: opponent TBA, site TBA.
October 11: @ Amsterdam.
October 14: Albany. The Falcons will be looking for some payback after losing in 5 sets on Tuesday.
October 18: @ Averill Park.
October 20: @ Columbia.
October 24: @ Bethlehem.

The women's soccer team snapped a 8 game losing streak Thursday, beating Schenectady under the lights at Picken Field, 3-0, and earning a split of their season series with the Patriots. The women are now 2-8 on the season.

Remaining games for women's soccer:

Saturday: Catholic Central (9:30 am kickoff)..
Tuesday: LaSalle (4:30 pm). Just added to the schedule.
October 6: @ Amsterdam.
October 8: @ Columbia.
October 15: @ Bethlehem.

Likely finish: No better than 5-10. As noted, Troy petitioned and were granted a release from a full league schedule in both men's & women's soccer.

As of press time, the final of yesterday's men's soccer match @ Schenectady had not been made available. We'll update later.

Remaining schedule for the men:

Saturday: Guilderland (3 pm).
Monday: Burr & Burton (6:30 pm). Just added.
October 8: Columbia (2 pm).
October 11: @ Niskayuna.
October 15: Bethlehem.

The men's golf team is playing their third make-up match in as many days, hosting Colonie today after losing to Shenendehowa & Saratoga the last two days. Of course, the football team is back home to play Averill Park tonight, looking to rebound after losing to LaSalle last week.

The unified women's swimming & diving team, partnered with Tamarac & Averill Park, has three meets left:

Monday: @ Albany.
Wednesday: Ballston Spa.
October 12: Burnt Hills/Scotia.

Jeff Maxwell's squad is at 2-3.
