News & notes

More & more older pro wrestlers are finding out how lucrative it is to go on the road and tell stories about their glory years, and take questions from the audience.

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley did just that a few weeks back at WAMC's The Linda, and now, two more Hall of Famers, old rivals Tito Santana & Greg Valentine, will be at The Linda on Saturday night.

Santana, otherwise now a school teacher in New Jersey, last we heard, had a heated feud with Valentine over the Intercontinental championship back in the 80's. This should be interesting.

Thursday's college scores:

Women's lacrosse:

RPI 20, SUNY-Oneonta 7.

Baseball:

Hofstra 6, UAlbany 5.

MVP Arena has been home to WWE, AEW, & TNA (now Impact Wrestling) over the years, with the former two having recently been there this past fall. This weekend, it'll once again be home for the Section II wrestling championships. Unfortunately, the competition won't be televised, but it should, the better to educate viewers on Greco-Roman & freestyle wrestling. Spectrum Cable, when it was still Time Warner in this market, did carry the championships one year, but we're wishing local broadcast channels, especially if they don't have any significant sports programming this weekend, would take up the gauntlet. Just sayin'.

Thursday's high school sectional scoreboard:

Hockey:

Adirondack 5, CBA 1.
CD Jets 4, Saratoga 2.

The semi-finals have been moved from Union College, and so Adirondack will host the Jets Sunday at 5:15 pm, while Bethlehem will have one more home game vs. Shenendehowa, Sunday at 7:30 pm. No reason given for the late switch, though we suspect either issues with officials or a scheduling conflict at Union, which will still host the finals on Tuesday at 6 pm.

Women's basketball:

Class AA:

Colonie 68, Saratoga 52,
Albany 66, Guilderland 37.
Bethlehem 56, Shaker 52. The Bison led for most of the game, but Bethlehem used a 4th quarter comeback, down by as much as 12 points in the 2nd quarter, to advance.

Shenendehowa 56, Niskayuna 54.

Monday at Hudson Valley Community College:

Shen vs. Bethlehem, 4:30 pm.
Colonie vs. Albany, 6 pm.

Class A;

South Glens Falls 45, Queensbury 41.
Catholic Central 56, Academy of Holy Names 40.
Averill Park 64, Amsterdam 18. The Lady Warriors shut down the Lady Rams in the 2nd quarter, and used their bench for the entire 2nd half!

Columbia 63, Burnt Hills 44.

Tuesday at HVCC (weather permitting):

South Glens Falls vs. Catholic Central, 4:30 pm.
Columbia vs. Averill Park, 6 pm.

Another winter storm is headed our way on Monday, which might've played a role in moving the start times up on Monday at least, but there might be other factors involved.
