The Albany Empire open their season on Sunday at MVP Arena, returning most of their roster from last year, plus some new faces, including QB Vincent Testaverde, Jr., formerly of UAlbany, and the son of former NFL QB Vinny Testaverde, whose resume included stops with Cleveland, Tampa Bay, the Jets, and Dallas. Kickoff is set for 2:30 pm.

Last year at this time, Troy High had started what would be an 18 game winning streak, leading to a Section II Class A softball title, and falling short of a state championship.
This year's team started 1-2, then reeled off non-league wins over Whitesboro and Chatham, leading to Wednesday's businessman's brunch special vs. Shaker.
Shaker's Grace Harris clouted a 3-run homer in the visiting 2nd inning off Olivia DeCitise, but it was DeCitise who had the last word with a walk-off double to give Troy a 4-3 win, their 1st league win of the season (1-2 Suburban Council, 4-2 overall), and some momentum heading into another mid-day special tomorrow at Averill Park.
DeCitise likely will again be in the circle for Troy. She reached 500 strikeouts for her career earlier this month, and after fanning 13 on Wednesday, she now has 533 for her career.
The engine is running again. Be afraid, Suburban Council. Be very afraid.
