News & notes

In the end, it was late paperwork that kept Antonio Brown off the field Saturday night at MVP Arena.

Interest in the 7 time Pro Bowl receiver suiting up for the Albany Empire had the desired effect with an increase in attendance, but the league office didn't get the results of Brown's physical in time, and thus Brown was ruled inactive for the game vs.Fayetteville. The Mustangs sent the Empire to their 5th straight loss, 47-29.

Brown is also claiming that former Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton will sign with the Empire, but that hasn't happened yet, either. Albany has another bye week before traveling to Orlando to play the Predators in a rematch of the season opener June 9. Don't count on Brown being there, due to the legal issues he's facing in the Sunshine State.

After disposing of Syracuse at the Armory, the Albany Patroons will host a 1-game playoff on Tuesday, right back at the Armory. We'll know tomorrow who the opponent will be. Tip time is 7 pm.

The rubber game of the series between the Tri-City Valleycats & Washington Wild Things is underway as we speak. Last night's game felt like they were playing at Coors Field, as the Wild Things won in 10, 13-12.
