News & notes

 The Albany Patroons are making one last trip to Canada.

The Pats open the Eastern Conference finals in the TBL playoffs on Friday against the Newfoundland Rogues in Newfoundland's capital of St. John's. Game 2 is June 12 at the Armory, and if a 3rd game is needed, it'll be at the Armory one week from tonight.

The Albany Dutchmen dropped a 3-2 decision to Saugerties on Sunday, then came back home and mercy ruled the Glens Falls Dragons, 13-2, on Monday in 7 innings. You won't find the current standings in the paper due to lack of space. Albany will play Glens Falls again----weather permitting----Wednesday night.
============================================
The Troy Fighting Irish, who never get press coverage, sit at 1-1 after picking up their first win of the season Saturday at Marlboro, Massachusetts, 28-27. This followed a loss to the Watertown Red & Black, 12-6, on opening night. The Irish are still playing home games at Watervliet High, where at last check Irish executive Ryan Job is the varsity football coach.

However, tickets have gone up. Adult tickets are now $10, or more than triple the usual admission for a Cannoneers game during the fall. Also, the Irish are dealing with scammers trying to lure fans in with fake links to games. Maybe the added revenue from ticket sales can go toward, oh, I don't know, getting a YouTube channel?

We have to correct ourselves from yesterday.

We quoted last year's results in the women's state golf championships, not this year's, as there was one more day of competition. That said, Albany Academy defeated Ursuline of Section 1 to win the team title, and, yes, Kennedy Swedick repeated at individual champion, after firing a 3 under par 69 to clinch the title. Section 1 retained the sectional title, with Section II coming in 2nd.

Section II, however, placed 7th in the men's competition in Elmira. Dante Bertoni of Utica-Endicott in Section IV won the individual title.
