Can Troy High save their season(s)?

Counting this week, there are 4 weeks left in the regular season in basketball for Troy High. No one expected the men, coming off a sectional title last season, to be below .500 this late in the season. 1st year coach Josh Pelletier has played the hand he was dealt, but, aside from the Merritt brothers, Legend (a senior) and Stetson (a freshman in his 2nd varsity season), offensive depth has been lacking, as Troy sits at 2-10 overall heading into tonight's game at Burnt Hills, rescheduled from last night due to weather.

Former UAlbany star Will Harris was brought in to try to clean up the mess that was the women's basketball program after a school-worst 1-20 campaign under Steve Lombard, who was shown the door rather quietly last spring. Harris has already exceeded last year's win total, with 3 on the plus side and a month to go. Like the men's team, Troy only has 1 league win, and that was in their last game, at Schenectady. However, it isn't going to be easy the rest of the way.

The remaining schedule. The women play at the opposite venue of the men. Men's games will be listed.

Tonight: @ Burnt Hills.

Friday: Averill Park.

Monday: @ Saratoga (rescheduled from January 9).

January 25: Bethlehem (rescheduled from January 26).

January 30: @ Niskayuna.

February 2: @ Columbia.

February 6: Colonie.

February 12: Senior Night vs. Guilderland.

The women have these extra games:

February 8: @ Greenville.

February 9: @ Hudson Falls.

Senior night for the women will be vs. Columbia on February 2.

Are there any winnable games left? For the guys, the best chance is against Averill Park on Friday. Dave Pugilese's club has won exactly 1 game vs. Troy since the Flying Horses entered the Suburban Council in 2015. Troy will be looking to avenge losses to Columbia & Guilderland otherwise. Former coach Greg Davis brings his currently unbeaten Colonie club to town, returning to Zotto Gym for the first time since he left for LaSalle.

The women? Not really sure.

Should they go to sectionals? I shouldn't bother asking this anymore, because they'll go regardless of record.

What do you think?
