News & notes

Siena got senior Ahniysha Jackson (Albany) back after a case of the flu for Saturday's Alumni Day matinee vs. Iona. Jackson hit a 3 pointer to start the 2nd half, and that was it. Anajah Brown led Siena 19 points and 10 rebounds, powering the Saints past the Gaels, 77-56. Siena (8-8 overall, 5-3 MAAC) will get a few days' rest before playing Quinnipiac next Saturday.

Important stats from Friday's Averill Park-Troy games:

In the men's game, Stetson Merritt was held to 12 points, while older brother Legend led Troy with 14 points. Jacob Phelps, who has hurt Troy on the gridiron, had a game high 16 points for Averill Park.

The women's game, you know, was a massacre. Sanaya Adams led Troy with just 7 points as no Troy player reached double figures. Sean Organ's club shut down Amaya Harris, who only managed a free throw for 1 point. AP led, 23-3, after the 1st quarter, 38-5 at halftime, and 56-9 after three quarters before Organ pulled his starters. The next time he comes to Troy, he's going to be lustily booed out of the building. Trust me.

Hudson Valley Community College hosted a men's & women's basketball doubleheader between Shaker & Shenendehowa. Understandably, the frigid temperatures kept a lot of fans away, but those that did brave the elements were treated to a thriller in the men's game, won by Shaker. Shen won the women's game in a blowout, 62-29.

The Albany FireWolves are undefeated no more.

The San Diego Seals saw to that Saturday at MVP Arena, upsetting the NLL leaders, 14-7. I wonder, though, if some wise guys will try to claim the arena was not cleansed of Siena's losing mojo after the Saints lost on Friday night in the same building. Just sayin'.
