News & notes

Perhaps in an effort to widen its national reach, the annual Run For Women at the Empire State Plaza, taking place June 1, is now being sponsored by Sara Lee's Delightful bread, hence a name change to the Delightful Run For Women.

And, what of Freihofer's, you might ask?

Sara Lee & Freihofer's are corporate step-sisters, if you will, each acquired by Bimbo Bakeries in recent years. I'm guessing that Bimbo and event organizers felt that keeping the Freihofer's name attached to the race created the perception of a regional event, despite the fact it's attracted runners from across the country and other nations for years.

But, watch. Most folks will still associate the race with Freihofer's, whose chocolate chip cookies will still be available on race day.

Shenendehowa now knows who they'll play this weekend in a state regional hockey final.

The Plainsmen will host Massena, the Section X champion, Saturday at Union College's Messa Rink at 3:45 pm.

Meanwhile, Queensbury will host the Section VII champion in a Division 2 regional final in Glens Falls at 5:45, also on Saturday.

Could there be another match between Queensbury & Shen for the state title? Stay tuned.
