News & notes

We are looking for results for Monday's non-league men's lacrosse match between LaSalle & Valley Central in Montgomery. I would suspect the game might've been cancelled.

LaSalle's baseball team is scheduled to open its season today vs. Albany Academy at the Adirondack Sports Complex, with 1st pitch scheduled for 4:30 pm.

You know you've arrived in mainstream sports media when you and your team are being accused of getting preferential treatment from referees.

In other words, Iowa's Caitlin Clark caught some heat Monday night after fans complained that she was complaining to game officials about fouls not being called. It's part of the game.

Leading by just 2 points at halftime, Iowa defeated West Virginia, 64-54, to advance to the Sweet 16 and a date with Colorado, Saturday at MVP Arena.

Speaking of which, Saturday's doubleheader at MVP Arena in the Albany 2 division will be seen on WTEN, starting with UCLA vs. LSU at 1 pm, with Colorado-Iowa to follow. The winners will then meet next Monday.

ESPN's Friday doubleheader is:

Notre Dame vs. Oregon State, 2:30 pm.
Indiana vs. South Carolina, 5 pm.

Monday's local college scoreboard:

Baseball:

DePauw 12, Union 2.

Softball:

Wisconsin-Oshkosh 4, Union 0.

Men's lacrosse:

Delhi 16, Cobleskill 3.

The Tri-City Valleycats are hoping that signing some local talent can help boost attendance this season.

To that end, the 'Cats signed pitcher Arlo Marynzcak (Bethlehem/Siena) on Monday, one of three players signed by the team for the 2024 Frontier League season, which begins in May.
