News & notes

Former Shaker football standout Brandon Barlow is giving back to the 518.

Barlow, who played his college ball at Boston College before going to the CFL, will host a football camp Saturday & Sunday at Hudson Valley Community College from 11 am-2 pm.

The Elite Level Spring Football Camp, which will also feature Troy High football/outdoor track coach Jordan Canzeri and former NFL player Dion Lewis as coaches, will be a bit pricey for prospects. Registration is $150 for a family's 1st child, $120 for additional children.

Campers are advised to bring water and either sneakers or turf shoes.

Speaking of Troy High (which we really weren't), men's lacrosse season got off to a bad start on Wednesday, getting blown out by Guilderland, 15-1. Zaire Santana had the only goal for Troy, while goaltender Brody Stanton toughed it out, logging 11 saves.

In the only other game reported, Queensbury defeated Hudson Falls, 19-3, in the Foothills Council.

We must advise checking with your schools' athletic directors via e-mail this morning before venturing out. We will, if needed, have a list of postponements later today.

Not only did Wednesday's rain wipe out most of the Section II schedule, but two college games were cancelled, as well.

Siena was supposed to host Army in baseball, but that game was rained out. Likewise, a men's lacrosse game between Skidmore & Clark College was cancelled.

Siena's women's lacrosse team played through the rain, and defeated Niagara, 11-10. Down 8-6 at halftime, the Lady Saints scored 5 goals in the 2nd half to pick up the win to go to 3-1 in MAAC play (8-4 overall).

The exodus from the College of St. Rose has already begun.

Payton Graber (Schalmont) announced Wednesday she's transferring to Nova Southeastern for next season. We wish Payton all the best going forward.
