Troy High sports review through 9/14

With the exception of women's tennis and volleyball, Troy High's fall sports teams are moving in the right direction after 2 weeks.

The school relaunched its own weekly recap on their website, and the lack of listing for volleyball and tennis tells us neither team has picked up a win just yet.

The hit list:

Women's soccer:

Overall record: 3-1 (2-1 Colonial Council): 1st year coach Jarret Farrell may indeed be the savior of the program. Troy has won 2 in a row after defeating Catholic Central Thursday, and taking a non-league game over Hoosic Valley Saturday.

This week:

Tuesday: The Lady Horses will be under the lights at Picken Field vs. Ravena.

Thursday: The 1st ever women's soccer meeting vs. LaSalle.

Saturday: Non-league game vs. former foe Schenectady at 1 pm.

Men's soccer:

Overall record: 1-2 (0-1 Colonial Council): Russ Hines' club finally broke into the win column Thursday in beating South Glens Falls.

This week:

Tuesday: @ Ravena.

Thursday: LaSalle.

Saturday: Non-league game vs. Averill Park.

Golf:

Overall record: 4-2. Jack O'Keefe's duffers have won 4 straight after starting the season 0-2. Senior Joey Degnan may have set the record for the fastest qualifier for next month's sectionals.

This week:

Today: LaSalle.

Tuesday: @ Ichabod Crane.

Women's swimming & diving (unified team with Tamarac & Averill Park):

Record: 1-0. Coach Emily Caboot's team got off to a quick start, beating Shaker. Next up is a road trip to Saratoga. Swimming & diving is one of the few sports where Troy will see their old foes from the Suburban Council, as well as Colonial Council opponents.

Tennis:

Winless so far, the Lady Horses host city rival Emma Willard (Wasaren League) this afternoon, then travel to face Ichabod Crane on Wednesday, before Albany Academy makes its first appearance on the Troy court on Friday. We should note that tennis results have been very sparse in the local papers.

Volleyball:

Same thing. Not many scores have been reported. It's not confirmed, but it would appear as though Friday's non-league tilt vs. Averill Park might've been cancelled, as it was taken off AP's Aktivate schedule. The results of Saturday's Lansingburgh tournament were not reported.

This week:

Tuesday: Ravena.

Thursday: @ LaSalle. First ever meeting in volleyball.

Saturday: Another tournament, this time at Averill Park. This will stream on Hudl.

Football:

Seems the addition of former Watervliet coach Ryan Job has been a difference maker for Troy, which is 2-0. Next up is, possibly, Bethlehem, which has not yet announced if Friday's game will be played. Otherwise, Homecoming is coming sooner than I thought, as it'll be September 27 vs. red hot Columbia, also 2-0 after upsetting Ravena and Burnt Hills. Can Jordan Canzeri, along with Job, take Troy to the playoffs? Maybe. I'm looking at possibly a 5-3 ledger (4-3 if the Bethlehem game is cancelled), with the problem spots being Columbia, LaSalle, and Averill Park.
