It's mid-terms week, but there are some games to be played, as the winter season winds down.
Bowling:
Current record: 8-7 (8-6 Colonial Council).
Don Poutre's club gets a week off after getting swept by Mohonasen & Cohoes this week.
Next: The final week of the season sees rematches vs. Voorheesville & Ravena at home, with Ravena the Senior Day opponent on January 30.
Related news: When classes resume January 27, there will be bowling for the girls in their phys ed classes at Uncle Sam Lanes. That suggests that Troy, which has 4 women on their co-ed team, is just about ready to spin off a womens team. That, I think, would be 1-2 years away from reality.
Men's swimming:
Current record: 6-0.
Although Troy has just 1 swimmer on the roster (everyone else is from CBA or Columbia), the Flying Devil Brothers are rolling, with Guilderville the latest victim.
Nexz: Schenectady-Colonie visits on Tuesday. The season closes with a road trip to Shaker on January 30.
Women's basketball:
Current record: 7-5 (3-4 Colonial Council).
The Lady Horses blew away Lansingburgh by nearly 70 points, then pulled away in the 2nd half to beat Mohonasen, running their winning streak to 3 in a row.
Next: Will Harris' club looks to collect a receipt from Burnt Hills on Tuesday, facing a Spartans team that has struggled this season. Then, Ichabod Crane makes its first visit to Zotto Gym on Friday. The December 20 game vs. Ravena has been rescheduled for January 27. Troy has not had an extended winning streak on the womens' side in a few years.
Men's basketball:
Current record: 8-2 (5-1 Colonial Council):
Jamil Hood's team has also won 3 in a row, and 8 of 10. The Flying Horses' lone league loss was to LaSalle nearly 2 weeks ago. Like the girls, Hood's Horses crushed Lansingburgh, then pulled out a 7 point win over Mohonasen.
Next: Curt Sankey & Columbia will come looking for a receipt of their own, as the Blue Devils visit Zotto Gym. Then, the Horses make their first visit to Valatie for a Friday game at Ichabod Crane. They'll be in Ravena on January 27.
