When we posted Troy High's basketball schedule the other day, we couldn't help but notice that Catholic Central was left off the men's schedule.
Now, we know why.
WNYT's Rodger Wyland reported earlier this week that due to reduced enrollment that left Guy DiBacco with just 2 players, CCHS decided not to field a men's basketball team this year. The women will still play, but now you know why Troy filled the holes created by CCHS' absence and the defection of Albany Academy's men's team to NEPSAC earlier this summer with non-league games. Some players transferred from CCHS to Green Tech to play for Will Brown. Others left the area entirely.
Stay tuned.

Congratulations to Burnt Hills volleyball coach Gary Bynom, who earned career win #900 Thursday, as the Lady Spartans downed Guilderland, 3-1, in Suburban Council play.

We wrote before how reporter Kyle Adams, in the space of the last two years, has gone from El Cheapo Media to the Daily Gazette to the Albany Times-Union.
In turn, Drew Wemple, after a year or so with El Cheapo, is now at the Gazette. Wemple arrived kind of quietly after El Cheapo let "Average" Joe Boyle walk several months back. To fill the void, Mike Gwizdala is back in the sports department at El Cheapo, where he'd started his career a few years ago.
Now, if only El Cheapo made their website more accessible to the average fan.....

Chuck Miller touched on this earlier this week on his blog, but it bears noting that other media outlets are finally catching up to the news that former Albany Patroons coach Charley Rosen, who was promoted to head coach when Phil Jackson returned to the NBA to begin his historic run with the Chicago Bulls, passed away last weekend at 84. Rosen was an accomplished author as well, and, like Miller, a sports historian.
Rest in peace, Charley.
