Troy High sports review, through September 13

Momentum is, and always has been, a tricky thing. As we're about to find out, Troy High teams have had issues with momentum.

Women's swimming & diving:

Current record: 1-1.

Troy/Averill Park opened the season by defeating Schenectady on Wednesday, but then, they were blown out of the pool by Bethlehem on Friday, 115-67.

Next: The Flying Golden Knights travel to Shaker on Wednesday.

Football:

Current record: 1-1.

Despite blowing out Mohonasen on Friday, 54-19, Troy's staff never submitted a box score to the press. Weird.

Nest: It's back on the road, this time at South Glens Falls.

Women's soccer:

Current record: 1-3-1 (1-2 Colonial Council).

Jarret Farrell's squad went 0-2 for the week, losing to Ravena at home before going on the road and dropping a 2-0 decision to Hoosic Valley (Wasaren League).

Next: The ladies return home to play Lansingburgh on Tuesday before road games at Mohonasen (Thursday) & Cohoes (Saturday for Cohoes' Homecoming).

Men's soccer:

Current record: 2-3.

After starting the week on a 2 game win streak, Russ Hines' crew finishes it on a 2 game losing streak, falling to Ravena and Cohoes.

Next: The guys are at Lansingburgh Tuesday afternoon, then are back under the lights Thursday vs. Mohonasen.

Golf:

Current record: 4-3.

Jack O'Keefe's group got back on the winning track this week, beating Mohonasen & Lansingburgh, to get to .500 on the season.

Next: The Flying Horses are at Ichabod Crane on Tuesday, then return home for Ravena on Thursday & Voorheesville on Friday.

Update, 9/15: Troy's website has the golf team at 4-3. Easily figured out. Troy beat Ravena, and their home match vs. Ichabod Crane was rained out, with no make up date yet announced. They'll then play for the sweep against Ravena on Thursday.

Volleyball:

Current record: 3-0 (not including the Lansingburgh Invitational on Saturday).

As of press time, we have no results from Saturday's marathon at the 'Burgh. Still, heading into the event, Talia Valenti's club had dropped just 1 set, shutting out Schalmont earlier in the week.

Next: The Lady Horses are at Tamarac for a non-league clash on Monday, followed by a trip to Ravena on Tuesday before returning home to play LaSalle on Thursday.

Tennis:

Current record: 0-6.

New coach, same problems. If Trevor McCarthy isn't the answer, maybe Troy should plumb the archives to find a coach who can relate to today's players. The most recent loss, at home vs. Ravena, was not reported.

Next: It's a busy week, as Mohonasen-Schenectady comes in Monday, with the Lady Horses starting another stretch of four meets in five days. They host Maple Hill on Tuesday, then hit the road to play Ichabod Crane (Wednesday) & a rematch with Ravena (Friday).
