News & notes

Shaker grad Jeff Hoffman is going to the World Series with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Hoffman slammed the door shut Monday, as ex-Tri-City Valleycat George Springer brought the Jays back from defeat with a 3 run homer in the home 7th, lifting Toronto past Seattle, 4-3, to take the series, 4-3.

The World Series begins Friday at Rogers Centre, as the Jays will look for their first championship since the Joe Carter-led Blue Jays upset Philadelphia in 1993. To do it, Toronto will have to dethrone the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers, who are looking to be the first team since the Yankees (1998-2000) to go back-to-back.

Monday's high school scoreboard:

Men's soccer:

Scotia 9, Gloversville 0.

Women's volleyball:

Cohoes 3, Holy Trinity 0.

Fort Edward 3, Saratoga Catholic 1.

OESJ 3, Amsterdam 0.

As we had posted the pairings for the soccer sectionals yesterday, we couldn't help but notice how Section II got Hoosic Valley & Hawthorne Valley confused, and ended up listing the former twice, when it is Hawthorne Valley that merged with Taconic Hills in women's class B. I think that by now, they've corrected that mistake.
