News & notes

The NCAA announced on Wednesday that the 2021 women's volleyball tournament will have Albany as one of its bubble locations. The event takes place at the end of March at Albany's Capital Center. Ticket prices, of course, will be inflated, as it also includes hotel accomodations in the immediate vicinity. Stay tuned.

Wednesday night was Senior Night at Troy High for the women's soccer team. Unlike the men, whose Senior Night was spoiled on Tuesday, the Lady Horses celebrated by routing Schenectady, 13-0. Kristen Paravella notched a hat trick and five assists to lead Troy (2-9-1), who will close at home on Saturday vs. Colonie (11 am). Goaltender Margaret Adams only needed to make two saves to preserve the shutout.

The funny part is, the game result was not reported to the local press. Coach Justin Haviland posted the result as part of today's announcements on the school website. Two wins, however, may not be enough to get the ladies into the Suburban Council tournament next week.

Update, 2:29 pm: Troy/Averill Park's season finale in swimming & diving for women vs. Bethlehem, scheduled for today, has been postponed. No make-up date has been set at this time, but with the league championships set for November 21, a make-up date should be decided soon. Bethlehem schools have been on remote learning for a couple of weeks due to coronavirus concerns, and had hoped to resume in-person learning this week. The fact that today's meet has been postponed reflects the fact that this has not been the case.

Update, 11/14/20, 9:06 am: The meet has been rescheduled for today at 10 am.
