Somehow, you knew this would happen

Just when you thought it was safe to have winter sports start on time in Section II, reality sets in via an announcement earlier today that low-to-moderate risk sports, such as bowling and skiing, will have their seasons pushed back by 2 weeks. Practices would now start December 14, kicking off a 2 1/2 month winter season that would end at the end of February.

High risk sports, such as hockey & basketball, can also begin practice on December 14, but game play will be determined at a later date. Keep in mind, this is all pending approval from the state Department of Health. With recent surges in coronavirus cases, safety remains a top priority.

What does it mean for, say for example, LaSalle hockey?

Kiss the annual road trip to Plattsburgh good-bye for this season, at least for now. But, remember, too, that the state guidelines also affect schools all over the state, including Plattsburgh.

And what about Troy High?

While bowling will likely start on December 14, matches scheduled between November 30-December 11 will be rescheduled. Of course, Troy, like everyone else, is hoping to play basketball, so we'll see.

And they say April is the cruelest month......
