No PA, no problem (Columbia @ Troy--women's basketball, 2/20/21)

The trend at some Section II schools this season, and it's certainly prevalent in hockey, as we've already seen, is that public address announcers have been inexplicably in absentia, and that was the case today as Troy High's women's basketball team sought to end a 2 game losing streak, hosting Columbia.

I must acknowledge that I had the schedule backwards, thinking the boys would be home, but it is the ladies who start a 2 game homestand with today's matinee.

Anyway, for the first time, Troy gave their ages old sound system a rest, as their PA announcer had a rare in-season off day. That having been said, we'll let the video tell the story.

48 hours after getting blown off the court at Shenendehowa, Troy does the same to Columbia, taking out their frustrations on a Lady Devils team that is having a bad start to the season. The defense had its best game of the season, although the foul disparity, with a Columbia foul being as rare as an endangered species, is a little questionable. At least the team discipline gives Columbia a hat to hang on to. Considering that Troy's next game is against a traditional patsy in Burnt Hills, we might see more of the same on defense come Monday.

Still, holding an opponent under 30 points is another trend in Section II basketball this season. At least, the final margin of 23 points (49-26) will give Troy something to talk about when classes resume on Monday.
