Championship Friday aftermath

We only have incomplete game stats for last night's Suburban Council men's basketball title game, due to a lack of an available box score at press time. What we do know is that Josh Rodriguez led Troy with 15 points in a losing effort. Mason Courtney led Shen with a game high 18 points.

But what folks will be talking about this weekend is a last second heave by Troy's Nasir Dawud-Soto from about 3/4 of the court at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Edit, 7/18/23: The video was deleted by ABC-10.

As noted, Shen finished a perfect 15-0 campaign, while Troy ends at 12:3.

In Troy's win over Columbia to claim the women's consolation title, Nadia Brown had 18 points to lead Troy. Jenalyse Alarcon added 13, and Jakaiya Dewer added 11. Dewer will stay in town to start her college career, as she is apparently headed to Hudson Valley Community College in the fall. Troy finishes the season 8-5.

In Shen's women's title clincher over Saratoga, the Blue Streaks were again without sophomore star Natasha Chudy, who was on crutches on the sidelines. The Albany Times-Union is now describing it as a leg injury, not just a thigh injury. Still, Saratoga did the best they could, as Abby Ray led the Streaks with 13 points. Jillian Huerter, who will return for her senior season next year, led Shen with 21, as the Plainswomen completed a perfect 15-0 season.
