News & notes

Ernie Tetrault wasn't the only local personality to pass on this week.

Former Albany River Rats coach Dennis "Red" Gendron passed away on Friday after suffering a heart attack while playing golf in Maine. Gendron had spent the last 8 seasons as head coach for the University of Maine after spending 11 seasons in the New Jersey Devils organization, first as an assistant with New Jersey, then as an assistant to the late John Cunniff in Albany from 1996-2000. Albany qualified for the Calder Cup playoffs in each of those 4 seasons. Gendron returned as head coach in Albany from 2002-4, dismissed during the 2003-4 season, and replaced by Robbie Ftorek.

Rest in peace, Red.
