News & notes

The other shoe has dropped at WTMM (104.5-The Team).

Afternoon co-host Jeff Levack is leaving after the May 28 broadcast to take a job in another venue, but he will remain with WTMM for special projects. Former UAlbany AD Charlie Voelker will take over on June 1, partnered with another new arrival, Dan Dahl. Voelker is currently working Sundays for WTMM.

Levack had been going it mostly alone after former on-air partner Tom Gostowski was fired in January.

Shenendehowa grad Kevin Huerter made his NBA debut with the Atlanta Hawks at Madison Square Garden. On Sunday, he plays his first playoff game at the Mecca of Sports & Entertainment, when the Hawks visit the Knicks. who swept the season series between the two clubs, 3-0.

Just don't be too surprised to see some fans in Shen green and/or Atlanta red on Sunday.
=================================
Shen's other gift to Atlanta, Braves pitcher Ian Anderson, got the start vs. Pittsburgh on Friday, and there was no shortage of run support for Anderson (4-1), as the Braves steamrolled the Pirates, 20-1. Ian's been on the plus side of a few blowouts with Shen, so he knows the feeling.

Anderson went six innings of shutout ball, scattering six hits while striking out six. Check the highlight reel:

Anderson's next start is projected to be next weekend at Citi Field vs. the Mets.

It's only been three weeks since Section II's "Fall II" football season ended, but now they're rolling out the Fall 2021 schedule. Classes AA, A, & B will play 8 game schedules this season, and in the case of Class A, the top four teams, top two in each division, will advance to the playoffs.

Courtesy of the Daily Gazette, we were able to obtain the schedules for LaSalle & Troy High, and, yes, they'll meet again for the Collar City Cup.

LaSalle:

Week 1: @ Schenectady (non-conference).
Week 2: Home opener vs. Ballston Spa.
Week 3: @ Albany.
Week 4: @ Columbia.
Week 5: Queensbury.
Week 6: Averill Park.
Week 7: Senior Night vs. Amsterdam.
Week 8: Collar City Cup @ Troy.

Troy High:

Week 1: Home opener vs. Guilderland (non-conference).
Week 2: @ Burnt Hills. Matt Shell's club will be looking for revenge after the 50-3 beatdown Troy administered three weeks ago.

Week 3: @ Averill Park.
Week 4: Albany.
Week 5: Homecoming vs. South Glens Falls.
Week 6: @Amsterdam.
Week 7: @ Columbia.
Week 8: Senior Night vs. LaSalle.

Troy might want to plumb the alumni archives to find a tennis coach.

The Flying Horses are now 0-7 on the court after a shutout loss to Niskayuna Friday afternoon, but they have to get right back out there this morning vs. Columbia for a Saturday brunch special. Troy tennis hasn't won a set in men's action so far this season, a far, far cry from the halcyon days of their dominating the Big 10.

Niskayuna also defeated Troy in baseball, 7-4. Tanner Wood picked up the win in relief for Nisky, pitching the final four innings, allowing only 2 unearned runs, giving the Silver Warriors a chance to catch up, and they would, plating 4 runs in the 6th inning to win the game. Troy drops to 6-2.

However, Nisky didn't have any answers for softball ace Olivia DeCitise, who pitched her second straight complete game, scattering four hits while striking out nine, as Sean Geisel's club (6-3) defeated the Lady Warriors, 4-0.

Troy will have both diamonds, the tennis court, and Picken Field (lacrosse) running this morning vs. Columbia.
