News & notes

The National Racing Hall of Fame in Saratoga has announced the headliners of its 2021 induction class.

Triple Crown winner American Pharoah and trainer Todd Pletcher are being inducted this year, the latter while still active, which unlike other sports Halls, doesn't preclude induction.

Wednesday's rain played havoc with the high school sports schedule, as several events were postponed, or outright cancelled.

In Troy High's case, the men's tennis team had to postpone their season opener at Saratoga, no make up date set as yet. The women's outdoor track team was to open their season at Picken Field against Ballston Spa, but that was pushed back to today.

Speaking of track & field, the men's track team lost a dual meet against B-Spa & CBA on Tuesday, finishing last. Not a good start for coach Bob Burns, four days after his football team won the Class A title.

The lacrosse team will not be at Albany on May 15, as that game has been cancelled. Sounds to me like Albany can't field a team this year for lacrosse due to lack of available players.

As for why the Albany Times-Union still lists today's road lacrosse match vs. Shenendehowa, they have not received updated information. As we've previously noted, the game at Shen has been pushed back to June 4.
