News & notes

The Albany Patroons didn't have to look very far for their next coach.

Former UAlbany men's coach Will Brown will be introduced today as the team's new coach & general manager, succeeding Derrick Rowland, who had both roles before leaving for an expansion team in Oklahoma a few weeks back.

For Brown, it will be his first professional coaching gig, but he also stays in the conversation for any possible college jobs that could open up. If he stays long enough, son Jackson, who joined him at UAlbany last season, could join him with the Patroons.

Current UAlbany women's assistant coach and former Siena women's coach Gina Castelli was recently inducted into the Upstate NY Basketball Hall of Fame, and also honored with the Barry Kramer Lifetime Achievement Award for her work at Siena.

Castelli was hired as an assistant at UAlbany, added to Colleen Mullen's staff in August.

The Albany FireWolves indoor lacrosse team has a local TV home.

Like their fellow Times Union Center tenant Siena, the 'Wolves will have their games broadcast, both home and away, on WNYA (Spectrum channel 1215), with WNYT reporter Ashley Miller as part of the broadcast team. WNYA only airs a select handful of Siena men's home games, produced by ESPN, and some of the FireWolves games, up to 10 per season, will also air on one of the ESPN over-the-air networks.
