News & notes

Just two months ago, a Texas con artist targeted Shenendehowa, sending apparel and other items he claimed the school's cheerleading coach had ordered. She didn't.

While there's been no follow-up on the case since, another Suburban Council school has found themselves targeted by another scammer.

The Albany Times-Union reports today that residents in Guilderland have been targeted by a phone scammer using the name "Media All Stars", with the intent of collecting donations for the school's athletic program.

Guilderland, of course, does not solicit donations through an outside agency.

Phone scams happen all the time around these parts, usually targeting senior citizens. The brazen approach here suggests whomever is behind this thinks the Shen scam actually succeeded.

RPI's women's hockey team snapped a 6 game losing streak Tuesday night, beating Post University, 4-1. Post, it seems, is worse, and only managed a garbage time goal late in the 3rd period to avoid the shutout.

Another night, another loss for Siena's men's basketball team.

The Saints are now 0-2 at Times-Union Center (soon to be MVP Arena) after dropping a 82-54 decision to Yale, whose ancient Ivy League rival, Harvard, visits SEFCU Arena tonight to face UAlbany. Siena goes back on the road Friday night to face Big East power Georgetown.

There's another local pro wrestler to watch for.

Troy's Mike Parrow is one half of the tag team known as The End, and they're now in position to challenge for the NWA tag team titles. NWA Powerrr is no longer on YouTube, but rather is on Fite.TV. We're waiting for Parrow to come home to work a local indy card. Dude's slipped under the radar the last few years.
