It's one thing when you dominate the competition at home. Against a national field? Completely different story.
LaSalle's Getachew "Gitch" Hayes finished 17th in the Eastbay Invitational in San Diego on Saturday, bringing his high school cross country career to a close. The North Carolina-bound senior will likely be a frequent winner of the Albany Times-Union Male Athlete of The Week award once the outdoor track season starts this spring.
Closer to home, it was not a good day for the Cadets, either.
Less than 24 hours after beating Schalmont, Greg Davis' LaSalle basketball team fell, 78-55, to Cicero-North Syracuse. A few hours later, the skating Cadets' losing streak was extended to five in a row, losing to the Capital District Jets, 6-2.

The College of St. Rose fell just a wee bit short of an NCAA Division II title in women's soccer Saturday, losing to Grand Valley State, 3-2, in double overtime. The last, winning goal required a review when it was thought a GVS player might've been offside. No foul took place, the goal stood, and the game was over.
There's always next year.
