News & notes

 So much for the homecoming.

Former Guilderland star Andrew Platek, a graduate transfer from North Carolina, is done for the season after tearing an Achilles tendon in a Siena loss to Manhattan 11 days ago. In five games with Siena, Platek averaged 9 points a game. He'll need another waiver from the NCAA to play another season.

These are the benefits of an independent schedule.

Green Tech, playing just their 2nd game against a Section II opponent, avenged a loss to Shenendehowa in the 2019 Class AA title game by upsetting the Plainsmen, 76-73, in double overtime Monday. WTEN has the highlights:

Mason Courtney led all scorers with 28 points for Shen, a surprising 0-2 to start the season. Zaveon Little had 20 to lead the undefeated Eagles. Little will have a chance to play against his original team, Troy High, Sunday night at HVCC in a Coaches vs. Cancer special.

Suddenly, UAlbany is on a roll.

The Great Danes made it 2 in a row Monday, upsetting Boston College, 61-57. UAlbany led by 9 at the break, then had to rally to win. Dre Perry led the Danes with 16 points, while Matt Cerutti added 14. The Danes hit the road to Western NY to play Niagara on Saturday.
