News & notes

As Troy High's basketball teams are recovering from a recent COVID outbreak, the school's co-ed bowling team has fallen victim.

Tuesday's match at home vs. Shenendehowa was postponed, and so was Thursday's road match at Columbia. In response, the Suburban Council has decided to give the three affected teams a chance to get make-up dates booked, so the league championships, previously scheduled for February 2 at Boulevard Bowl, have been pushed back a week to February 9. The Troy keglers are scheduled to return to Uncle Sam Lanes on Tuesday to face Niskayuna.

518 alumni watch: Daemen graduate student Andrew Sischo (Guilderland) reached the 2500 point mark for his collegiate career on January 5 in a win over Pace. Sischo has earned five East Coast Conference Player of The Week honors so far this season, and is on course to possibly be player of the year for the fourth straight season.

Dorothy "Dolly" Cairns (Saratoga) is averaging 11 points a game as a sophomore for Rhode Island, which was 10-3 before the holiday break.

Daniel "Boo" Buie (Gould Academy/Troy High) is second on the team in scoring for Northwestern, but the Wildcats could use a win in the always tough Big 10 conference. If you have cable, the Big 10 Network, part of the Fox family of channels, is a premium channel on Spectrum, and shouldn't be. Just sayin'.

Kenny Allison (Lansingburgh) was named Empire 8 Conference Rookie of The Week on January 10 after scoring 14 points in 21 minutes for Alfred in a loss to St. John Fisher.

We saw what happened when Bethlehem's women's basketball team came back from a 2 week layoff on Tuesday, and suffered their first loss at Albany.

Green Tech? Still undefeated.

Seniors Dayshaun Walton & Zaveon Little each posted double-doubles as the Eagles downed Middletown in a non-league game, 74-58, on Thursday night. It was Green Tech's 1st game in 15 days, and there were no signs of rust.

RPI has pushed back its men's hockey games at Clarkson & St. Lawrence to Sunday & Monday, respectively, as the Engineers are still in COVID protocols. That they have had to deal with COVID only proves outgoing president Shirley Jackson right in barring fans from attending games for health & safety reasons.

League play seems to be the cure for what has ailed Siena's women's basketball team.

The Lady Saints beat Marist, 69-53, on Thursday to square their record in the MAAC to 2-2 (2-10 overall). Jim Jabir's club returns home to play Manhattan Saturday afternoon.
