News & notes

The other shoe dropped for Union College's men's hockey team Friday when coach Rick Bennett resigned, ending an 11 year run at the Schenectady school, which included a national title in 2014.

Seems someone sent an anonymous phone tip to Union administration with concerns about Bennett's approach to coaching. Bennett told the press he was not threatened with being fired, but tendering his resignation was the best move for all concerned.

Union is playing RPI this afternoon in the Mayor's Cup at MVP Arena.

Troy High's sports information department is getting lazy.

Once again, there is no box score from last night's narrow loss to Shenendehowa, but there is one for the women's game at Shen, which we'll address shortly. Troy has a tough road to climb in the final two weeks of the regular season, needing to catch Albany in order to repeat at Gray division champions.

Hard to believe Siena hasn't played a home basketball game at MVP Arena in nearly 3 weeks, but the schedule is what it is. The Saints beat Niagara, 60-56, on Friday. Sunday's home game vs. Quinnipiac will air on WNYA at 2 pm.
