News & notes

Troy High & Christian Brothers Academy have been rivals for years in basketball, dating back at least to the Big 10, so it should be big news when the teams play each other, even if it's now just once a year.

On Tuesday, the Brothers, enjoying one of their best seasons since winning the Suburban Council Gray Division in 2018, defeated Troy, 50-42, in front of a sparse crowd at Zotto Gym. With indoor mask mandates being lifted, perhaps as early as today, that may be the last time the gym will be less than full with 2 home dates remaining.

Unfortunately, as with a number of other schools in Section II, Troy's been negligent in submitting game results to the local papers, which, given the rivalry with CBA, is a little strange. Troy is at Albany tonight and Bethlehem on Friday before returning home to play Mount Anthony Union on Saturday, with a make-up game vs. Niskayuna on Monday.

Meanwhile, the merged swimming team of CBA & Troy completed a winless season Tuesday, falling to Burnt Hills-Scotia, 50-33, to finish 0-8 on the season, a total reversal from last season.

These are hard times for the College of St. Rose's basketball teams.

The Golden Knights were swept by New Haven on Tuesday night. The men fell, 90-56, losing valuable ground to New Haven in the standings. Shane O'Dell (Schalmont) was held to 12 points.

The women dropped their 8th straight game, 74-62, despite 13 points from Nina Fedullo (Amsterdam). The Golden Knights play Franklin Pierce tomorrow.
