News & notes

We are two weeks away from Opening Day for the Tri-City Valleycats. Hard to believe, but it's true. This season also marks the 20th anniversary of the team relocating from Pittsfield to Troy.

With the Education Day pre-season game vs. the Albany Dutchmen having been discontinued after the 2019 season, the 'Cats will welcome their loyal fans with a pre-season game against Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday. Admission is free. First pitch is at 3 pm. It will be the first meeting ever between the two tenants of Bruno Stadium.

Schenectady High has not won a softball game yet this season. Despite this, host Troy took the time prior to Wednesday's game to bestow some gifts on a Schenectady player who was shot at Crossgates Mall earlier this month. The unnamed student was given gift cards, a blanket, and body wash, among other items.

Then, the two teams got down to business, and, unfortunately for the Lady Patriots, they were held to just 2 hits, and committed 9 errors as the Lady Horses ran their winning streak to 8 in a row in a 5 inning, 21-0 shutout. For Troy, it was their 3rd shutout in four games. Olivia DeCitise didn't pitch, it appears, but went 3-3 at the plate with 2 triples and 4 RBI. Troy has today off before hosting Guilderland on Friday.
