Monday's high school scoreboard, 5/9

We are accustomed to discussing divisional champions in the Suburban Council in basketball, soccer, et al. However, Schedule Galaxy's incomplete charts aside, the league is more interested in promoting one division, 14 teams in men's play, one champion. Based on the standings this year, it doesn't do the Grey division any favors when the top two teams are in the Blue division.

On Monday, Colonie inched closer to claiming the league title with a 6-4 win over Averill Park, which had been one of the leaders, with Burnt Hills and Troy, in the Grey division. Tyler Sausville, the Raiders' ace, gave up the four Warrior runs early, but helped himself on offense with a homer.

It was not a good day for the Grey division leaders at all. Burnt Hills dropped a 5-3 decision to Saratoga, and CBA shut out Troy, 4-0, sending the defending Class A champs to their second straight loss, and their first losing streak since the start of the season in April. CBA pitchers held Troy to just 2 hits.

Troy, Burnt Hills, & Averill Park are now all 7-6 in league play. Troy closes the regular season at Bethlehem on Wednesday. Burnt Hills has a non-league, neutral site game vs. Ichabod Crane (Colonial Council) at Cooperstown today.

Colonie finishes its schedule on Wednesday against luckless Albany.
