WTEN is overhauling its sports staff.

Sports director Liana Bonavita said her goodbyes on Friday, after more than a decade spent in the 518 with WXXA & WTEN. Liana is also leaving the broadcasting business, and moving into insurance, taking a job with Northwestern Mutual, per an interview with the Albany Times-Union.

Reporter Jared Phillips is also leaving, which leaves Griffin Haas as the only sports reporter left on staff. They'll fill the void soon enough.

It must've been raining heavier near Joe Bruno Stadium than anywhere else Tuesday, as the Tri-City Valleycats postponed their game with the Trois-Rivieres Aigles. They'll play 2 today, 7 innings each, with the opener at 3 pm.

In other Valleycats news, the team activated 1B Brad Zunica from the COVID IL, and placed pitcher Oddy Nunez on the 7 day IL. Catcher Daniel Angulo, after being so impressive early, hasn't been hitting, it seems, and was cut, along with pitchers Aneudy Acosta & Eric Ezersky, both of whom were strafed in Sunday's 15-12 loss to the NY Boulders. The 'Cats acquired pitcher Neil Abbatiello & infielder Jace Mercer from Windy City, and pitcher Jaylon Smith from Winnipeg of the American Association in separate deals for players to be named later, so the shuffling will continue.

Toronto reliever Matt Gage (Broadalbin-Perth/Siena) pitched a scoreless inning in Monday's loss to the Chicago White Sox. Tuesday's result didn't make the papers in time for press this morning, but the two teams have a matinee this afternoon.
