News & notes

 Shreveport, here they come.

"They", of course, are the Albany Patroons, who demolished Kokomo, 121-83, Monday to advance to the TBL finals against the Shreveport Mavericks. Game 1 will be in Louisiana Wednesday night, and, then, the scene shifts back to Albany Saturday for game 2, and possibly, game 3, which would be on Sunday.

AJ Mosby led all scorers with 36 points, one of four Pats in double figures. Albany led, 25-16, after the 1st quarter, then blew the barn doors off the Armory, as the lead grew through the course of the game.

I would recommend that the Mavericks would leave the cowbells at home. The BobKats paid a terrible price for fan distractions in the first game of the series.

As the Tri-City Valleycats make their first trip into Canada this season, they welcome back manager Pete Incaviglia after missing the last 4 games to attend to some personal issues in Texas. With nephew Thomas running the team, Tri-City merely went 3-1 to get back to .500.

Tonight, Tri-City opens another series with Trois-Rivieres, after the Aigles won 2 of 3 last week in Troy. The 'Cats return home for a rematch with the Empire State Greys on Friday.

In other 'Cats news, catcher Ciaran Devenney is on the IL after fracturing his cheekbone when he was hit by a pitch vs. the Greys on Saturday. Word is that Devenney will miss up to 2 months in order to rehab the injury.

Meanwhile, the 'Cats plan to sign pitcher Marshall Winn (UAlbany) and outfielder-pitcher Tom Kretzler (Colonie/SUNY Brockport) to bolster the roster for the Canada trip. Winn, a relief pitcher at UAlbany, had a 4.66 ERA this season, with three saves and 19 strikeouts.

Kretzler, the dual threat, went 7-2 on the hill for Brockport, pitching to a 2.07 ERA, and also batted .367 with 17 homers and 63 RBI's. Care to guess what the priority is for the 'Cats?
