News & notes

 The Albany Patroons swept the Atlantic City Gambits during the regular season. If they thought Tuesday's opening game in the TBL playoffs would be more of the same, they were mistaken by the end of the night.

Atlantic City pulled what amounts to an upset in game 1, 91-83, but the scene shifts back to Albany and the Washington Avenue Armory on Friday night, with game 3 on Saturday. Devon Dillard led 4 Pats in double figures with 21 points.

The Tri-City Valleycats defeated the Washington Wild Things, 9-2, on Tuesday. Jesus Lujano homered for the 'Cats to back up starter Joey Gonzalez (2-0), who went 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win. There was a rain delay of about 48 minutes in the home 4th inning, but Washington didn't do much to capitalize.

Atlanta Hawks guard Kevin Huerter (Shenendehowa) will be hosting summer basketball camps at the Impact Athletic Center in Halfmoon July 11-15 and August 1-5. For Huerter, it's all about giving back to the 518, as others have before him, like fellow Shen alumnus Greg Koubek.
==========================================
Shen's other gift to Atlanta, Ian Anderson, pitches tonight for the Braves against the skidding Oakland A's, who've lost 7 in a row after dropping a 3-2 decision to the Braves on Tuesday. This will be Anderson's 1st career start vs. the A's.

Last winter, the Toronto Blue Jays traded infielder Kevin Smith (Columbia) to Oakland. Now, they have another 518 alumnus on their roster.

Relief pitcher Matt Gage (Broadalbin-Perth/Siena) made his major league debut Tuesday morning for Toronto in the 9th inning of the Blue Jays' 8-0 win over Kansas City. Gage needed just 13 pitches (2 strikeouts) to finish the game.
