News & notes

Per James Allen of the Albany Times-Union, Section II football training camps started on Saturday, two days earlier than originally planned. While this may be a boon in terms of long-term planning for the season, which starts September 2, there are some key notes:

Averill Park has named Nicholas Galuski, son of assistant coach Mark Galuski as the starting quarterback. Galuski was a wide receiver last season. The Warriors said good-bye to last year's starter Gavin Giordano via graduation back in June.

After some confusing information on the website, it has been confirmed that CBA will open the season at LaSalle on September 2 in the Battle For The Sabre.

Coach Bob "The Builder" Burns won't have two-way star David Clement this season. The Syracuse commit suffered a season ending injury prior to the start of training camp.

Some radio announcers might be more comfortable with the English translation of Trois-Rivieres (Three Rivers) than trying to pronounce the French version. Found that out this morning as WROW morning host Ben Patten read the result of Sunday's Aigles (Eagles) loss to the Tri-City Valleycats. The 'Cats answered the Aigles' 8-1 win on Saturday with a 8-1 win of their own in the rubber game, as Cito Culver and Denis Phipps homered for the visitors.

Tri-City continues its Canadian trip in Ottawa on Tuesday.

For reasons known only to the schools involved, Troy High's women's golf team will not be at Shenendehowa, though the guys will, on Friday.

Per Schedule Galaxy, and this has been known for a couple of weeks now, the women's golf match was cancelled, with no makeup date set. Something tells me either Shen or Troy would not have a full team available for Friday's match, which would be the 2nd of the season. For Troy's women, who have their own squad for the 2nd straight season, this is not a good sign.

Tonight's Mets-Yankees game, assuming it's played, will air on either CBS6 or CW15 at 7 pm. After the station manager decided to put a Mets-Braves game on CBS6 9 days ago, you just don't know.

Update, 5:57 pm.: Cable guide says the game will air on CBS6.
