News & notes

 After sweeping a doubleheader on Tuesday, the Tri-City Valleycats dropped a 6-5 decision to Ottawa on Wednesday night. The 'Cats had entered play six games behind East division leader Quebec, and tied with Sussex County for 2nd place, pending the outcome of the Miners' game vs. the Empire State Greys.

Tri-City closes the series in Ottawa tonight at 6:30.

Not only are high schools starting their sports schedules, but local colleges are, too.

For example, Siena's women's soccer team opens at New Hampshire tonight. Their men's team is at Sacred Heart. UAlbany's men's team hosts Boston University. The College of St. Rose begins its volleyball slate by hosting Dominican, and their men's soccer team will play Mercy.

Due to the Albany Times-Union's revamped deadline policies, most of the scores might not appear in Friday's editions.

Wednesday's high school scoreboard;


Guilderland swept their season opening golf matches over Niskayuna. The men won by a count of 250 to 263, while the women prevailed, 131-189. The Dutchmen host Troy this morning, but it's for the men only, as the women's match has been cancelled.
