News & notes

The Tri-City Valleycats dropped a 6-4 decision to the NY Boulders on Friday, despite another home run from Brad Zunica, but that's not the only story coming from the 'Cats' camp.

You might recall that the team filed suit against Major League Baseball after the dissolution of the NY-Penn League in 2020. That case will go to trial in 2023 in Manhattan, but according to an attorney who was interviewed by the Albany Times-Union, he doesn't think the case will be settled before it goes to trial. The Valleycats are averaging over 2,000 fans per game since entering the Frontier League last year.

Stay tuned.

WWE fans had to either go to the Fox website or find alternate sources of streaming Friday, as Smackdown was pre-empted on WXXA due to the station's commitment to Buffalo Bills pre-season football. As it was, the Bills finished the pre-season 2-1 after losing to Carolina, 21-0.

Fox also has coverage of the Travers at Saratoga this afternoon. Smackdown should be available On Demand later today.

UAlbany's fall sports season has gotten off to a slow start.

The women's soccer team fell to Brown, 2-0, and the volleyball team was defeated by Kent State, 3-1, on Friday. Today, the field hockey team hosts Northeastern, while the volleyball team travels to Virginia for the James Madison Invitational. The Danes will face Robert Morris this afternoon.

Due to space considerations, not all of Friday's high school scores reached the pages of the Times-Union this morning. What's missing today could be in Sunday's editions.
