News & notes

As the losses mount, the current losing streak now at 8 in a row, the more likely it is that UAlbany may have to cut bait on 2nd year coach Dwayne Killings, as his legal issues have provided too much of a distraction.

In front of just over 1,000 fans at Hudson Valley Community College on Wednesday, the Great Danes laid another egg, losing to Bryant, 87-62. Gerald Drumgoole, Jr. led the Danes with 16 points.

At this rate, HVCC's team, which shares the McDonough Field House, could beat Albany.

Meanwhile, the Lady Danes got back on the winning track on the road, beating Bryant, 56-36. Kayla Cooper led Albany with 21 points. Abby Ray (Saratoga) & Grace Heeps (Columbia/UMass) were held scoreless. Lilly Phillps (Cambridge) is out with a leg injury, with no timetable for her return.

Siena men's head coach Carmen Maciariello shared with the press on Wednesday that some of his players have been bombarded with racist insults on social media after the team's recent losses at home.

Maciariello speculated that the haterizing is coming from "fans" who are putting money on the games, and losing out, likely in large quantities.

We've seen this sort of thing play out in the pro game, usually in football, when inebriated geeks take umbrage at selected players for "blowing the game" with a missed field goal or a dropped pass.

Just when you think it couldn't happen here......!
